Thanks to my Zoombike, I got to my son's 6th grade graduation with 1 minute to spare! It took me 28 minutes to cover the 7.2 miles from my office in Montpelier to the Rumney School in Middlesex. Temps in the 80s, plus my effort to speed the pace, meant that I sweated somewhat, but to a perfectly tolerable degree. (In contrast, I rode my non-motorized bike 4.5 miles uphill on another similarly warm day and was drenched. I mean really drenched.) Unassisted, that ride takes me a good 40 minutes.
Ride entry for June 7th: I rode from downtown Montpelier to the Rumney school in Middlesex (a distance of about 6 miles) in about 23 minutes. If you don't know the route, it's about half flat and half uphill (and just about zero coasting), with a vertical gain of roughly 500 feet. On an unmotorized bike, the trip takes me about 38 minutes and requires a change of clothing (no matter what season it is). After this trip, I had but a slight dampness to my brow. (Side-note: Rumney has a bike rack out front but it rarely hosts any bikes...) ~Lauri
We spent a gorgeous Saturday morning in front of the State House letting people demo our bikes. A constant stream of visitors kept us busy. One fellow took a bike up Clarendon Street where he found some friends, and proceeded to have them all try it out. It's easy to get excited when you discover how easy it is to ride up hills.
